In 3-2018 we changed our name from Service Dogs of America to Working Dogs of America to eliminate the confusion around what is meant by the term "service dog."
The public at large understands this term to mean assistance animals such as those trained to assist the disabled.
The SDA use of the term always implied police, military or personal protection service. But it became clear over the years that we cannot change this public impression.
To eliminate any future confusion, we have changed our name but we are not changing our goals or our program.
